justsomerandomcoolstuff asked: If you could change any ONE thing Adventure Time, would it be to make Bubbline an actual couple instead of just strongly implied?
I want them to canonically WANT each other, but not to be a couple already.
What makes these girls so interesting is the fact that they are NOT together, but have strong feelings for each other. They intentionally try to suppress their feelings due to a myriad of complicated and very adult issues. Past hurt feelings and resentments linger, and while they are starting to work past them, they are still a bit awkward sometimes.
Bubblegum is married to her work, whereas Marceline has absolute freedom to follow her own whims. This is a fundamental lifestyle clash, and it makes a conventional relationship difficult.
When important tasks are at hand, Bubblegum would be bothered and/or distracted from her duties by Marceline’s devil-may-care casual attitude. Marceline’s tendency to prank could cause problems in delicate diplomatic situations as well.
Marceline, on the other hand, probably feels overly criticized over all this. She may also feel alienated and ignored when Bubblegum hyper-focuses on her work.
They don’t need to be officially together to qualify as lgbt representation, because lgbt people have all different kinds of levels of relationships. I find these problems very realistic and nuanced. I would rather watch them try to work their love through these problems. It would be neat if they found a way to make it work by the end, or in an epilogue…but right now, they aren’t ready and that makes them so much more interesting.
